John 3:16
VERSE
of the DAY

From Pastor Jimmy Martin - Director of Shepherd's Office Ministries
In Georgetown, DE, we are witnessing a growing number of homeless and hungry individuals. Our team and I at the Shepherd's Office feel called by our faith in God to help those in need. However, some neighbors express concerns on the local radio and to us that providing free meals and clothing is enabling our guests to continue to live in poverty, homelessness and addiction. Yet, scripture reminds us of our duty to care for the poor among us. Leviticus 23:22 urges us to leave a portion of our harvest for the poor, and Jesus emphasized the importance of serving them in Luke 4:18. John reminds us that overlooking the needs of the poor shows a lack of God's love (1 John 3:17), and Jesus acknowledged that we will always have the poor among us (Matthew 26:11). We must remember that our service goes beyond charity; it’s about recognizing the inherent dignity in every person and that each person is created in the image of God. Those we serve at the Shepherd's Office are not just recipients of our free meals, food, clothing and supplies; they also are reaching out for a pathway back to God, for medical care, for substance abuse treatment, a mailing address, a referral into a local sober living group home in the Georgetown area and, of course, employment connections. Many of our guests are turning their lives around and becoming productive Georgetown residents! And we are having Morning Church Service from 8:30 am to 9:15 am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. We are having Bible Studies at 6:00 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. And on Sundays we have a Sunday Church Worship Service at noon. Our team and I think we should continue to come together as a community to support and uplift those in need, living out our Christian faith through practical action! ❤️🙏
